Can You Handle Power?
When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.
(Psalms 75:2)
Thought For Today:
Abraham Lincoln said, "Almost all men can endure adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, then give him power."
Scripture says, "Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God."(2 Samuel 23:1-3). David said that the Lord said that he who rules over people must be just, ruling in the fear of God. It's important to live right, do right, and operate in a right way. As Asaph said, "When I receive the congregation, I will judge uprightly." Pastoral duties are not as easy as some people may think. There is a lot that goes into preparation, overseeing, and administration. With so much political enforcement and attacks against the church, ministers really have to be careful in how they conduct themselves and do the Lord's work. Many people may say that these attacks are from the devil, but what if they are from God to cause us to do what is right? If you are feeling called to the ministry, why not take Asaph's advice and purpose in your heart to judge God's people uprightly? Those who rule over people must act with fairness and impartiality. Always remember, it is not our church but God's, and He entrusts us to oversee it.
