Dominion Over Hurts
And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son? And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept. And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above; And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck. (Genesis 27:37-40)
Thought For Today:
Many people carry emotional burdens because they struggle to let go of past hurts or grievances caused by others. Even individuals in the church who should understand the importance of forgiveness and move forward often cling to self-justification. They always want to see themselves as right and others as wrong. And because they want to be justified and always right, they carry this heavy heart. Solomon said that heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop (Proverbs 12:25). When someone has a heavy heart, they experience no joy or enthusiasm about who they are or what they are doing. Esau was devastated by his brother Jacob's actions and even wanted to kill him. So his father Isaac told him, "Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above; And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck." In other words, when you get over your hurt, you will remove this yoke from you, but if not, it will weigh you down and destroy you (my wording). Are you carrying around hurts of the past? Well, let me encourage you to get dominion over it so that it does not cause you hurt and harm.
