Don’t Plan On Staying
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. (Revelation 21:1-5)
Thought For Today:
In this passage, John gives us a glimpse of heaven, hoping to whet our appetite for what's to come. Every time I read it, I get excited about my new home in heaven. It's interesting to me how many people talk about heaven, but not many seem to be actively pursuing it. It appears that more people are putting their faith in the things of this world than in the treasures of heaven. Jesus warned against storing up treasures on earth because it will keep us tied to this world. Perhaps this is why people are hesitant to leave this earth and try to live here forever. They have invested so much in their earthly possessions - bank accounts, houses, cars, and hobbies - that they don't want to let go. However, Peter reminds us that this earth will one day be destroyed. So, why would anyone want to stay here indefinitely? I certainly don't want to be burned. That's why I'm investing in heavenly treasures and planning to spend eternity in heaven. Are you ready to do the same?
