Godly Fear
Proverbs 14:26-27
In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
Thought For Today
Do you ever wonder why there’s so much talk in scripture about fear? There’s actually different kinds of fear. There’s the “Fear” that torments according to 1 John 4:18. There’s the “fear” that is not given from God according to 2 Timothy 1:7. And then there’s the “fear” of reverence spoken about here. Now let’s look at these verses for a moment. When we understand the position of God; King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Master, Mighty God, Father, Prince of Peace, and Creator; we can see that His position requires honor. In the military, when a general or admiral enters into a building, they are shown reverence by someone calling everyone to attention. Not for the person, but for the rank and the position they hold. When we reverence the Lord, Solomon said, it brings strong confidence and a fountain of life. When our children see us reverencing God, they too will learn that they have a place of refuge and strength to keep them from the snares of death. Always remember, the best training tool is, setting the example.
