Happy, Happy, Happy
Psalms 1:1-6
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Thought For Today:
Have you ever wondered what it means when someone says they are blessed? Do you question whether you are blessed too? The Scriptures often use the word "blessed" to describe when the Lord's favor is upon someone. As believers, we should all be blessed by God. In Psalm 1, the word "blessed" means "happiness". When we follow God's ways, we will experience true happiness in our lives. What was it about Solomon's servants that Bathsheba would say, "Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom" (1 Kings 10:8)? It was because Solomon was walking according to the ways of the Lord. There is no true happiness in the life of the wicked. Job said that the man that God corrects is happy. "Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty" (Job 5:17). God corrects us through His word. Therefore, when we follow God's word and have a relationship with Him, happiness will follow. The people who have God as their Lord are fortunate and happy (Psalms 144:15). Those who put their hope in the Lord and have Him as their help, like the God of Jacob, are also happy (Psalms 146:5). If you are not happy, it's worth asking yourself who your God is and where you place your hope. Remember, the joy of the Lord is your strength.
