If We Want To See Jesus
And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus. And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
(John 12:20-23)
Thought For Today:
Many people were eagerly anticipating the arrival of Jesus, but when He arrived, He did not meet their expectations. They were hoping for a Messiah like King David, someone who would lead them to victory against the Romans with strength and force. Instead, Jesus showed compassion and kindness even towards their enemies, which was not what many had anticipated. However, John 1:12 states that those who received Him were given power to become the sons of God.
When these Greeks approached Philip expressing their desire to see Jesus, why didn’t they receive him when He revealed himself? At times, I contemplate whether we base our experience of Jesus on the delivery of a Bible lesson or a song during church worship. If we want to experience Jesus fully, we must ensure that no human stands in our way. If we want to experience Jesus fully, we must ensure that no preconceived idea stands in our way.
