Lay Your Burden Down
Psalms 55:22
Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Thought For Today:
By the sound of Psalms 55:22, God does not expect us to carry our burdens for extended lengths of time. We are told to cast our burdens upon the Lord. A burden is an uncomfortable thing to carry. It is important to differentiate between what constitutes a burden and what is considered burnout. It's possible that if you no longer find the call of God exciting, you might be experiencing burnout instead of a burden. We should be excited about what God is doing so that others will be inspired to join the team. I have not read where Paul, during all his mission trips, said that it was a burden for him. Instead, he said, "But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel" (Philippians 1:12) ”He told the church at Corinth, "But be it so, I did not burden you" (2 Corinthians 12:16). Paul wasn't carrying around any burdens and we shouldn't be either. If I have burdens, I'm bound to burden someone else. Are you burdened with something today? Are you worried about your health? Are you worried about your children? What about your job? Is the past weighing you down? David, the psalmist, and Peter both encourage us to cast our burdens and cares on the Lord (Psalms 55:22 and 1 Peter 5:7). If we keep carrying things that weigh us down, they may eventually crush us. It's important to trust in the Lord and let go of our worries to find peace and relief.
