Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)

Lighthouses not only serve as directionals, but they also give warnings of danger. Whether in the middle of an airport or along the coastline, lights from a houselight can be seen for miles and miles away. When Jesus calls us lights, He's saying that we have two purposes: To give direction and to warn. We are to direct those who may not know the ways of Christ and also give warning to those who may be venturing off course into danger. This is why our lights must be shining bright. Our light must be burning. If you study and apply God's Word to your life, not only will you be burning bright when Jesus comes, but you will be able to direct others to safety. "Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins" (James 5:19-20).
