New And Improved
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. (Hebrews 10:1-2)
Thought For Today
I truly believe that at different points in our lives, we all yearn for something greater. Whether it's a fresh start in a new home, a sleek new car, stylish clothes, a fulfilling job, or a profound spiritual awakening, we are always seeking to elevate our lives. It's part of our nature as humans to continuously strive for improvement. I've often heard people express the sentiment, "There must be something better out there." They are on a quest for something more meaningful. People dedicate themselves to education, take on multiple jobs, and explore distant lands in pursuit of fulfillment. In the book of Hebrews, the author hints at something wonderful on the horizon. For the Israelites, it was a challenge, something they struggled to fully embrace. But the promise of something good to come kept their hope alive.
Paul's teachings remind us that the law was designed to lead us to Christ. "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith" (Galatians 3:24). This indicates that Christ was the fulfillment of the law's promises. Just like the governor of the feast acknowledging, "You have saved the best till now" (John 2:10), the law's goodness was surpassed by Christ. The author of Hebrews also assures us that God has prepared something superior for us (Hebrews 11:40), which is the Holy Spirit. If you are searching for something greater, look to Jesus. I sincerely believe that you will find fulfillment and joy in Him.
