Slow Down

Luke 18:35-43

And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

Thought For Today:
Often, when my wife and I are traveling, we might see a fleemarket advertisement on a sign and she wants to stop and browse. But, because she usually puts it in general terms and doesn't say specifically, "I would like to stop at that fleemarket", I always take it as "If you want to, we can stop, but if not, that's fine." And so because I am focused on getting where we are going, and I pass by the place, she will say, "Well I guess we aren't going to stop there today." And I will say, "Well you didn't say you wanted to stop." There are so many things that we pass by because we are always in a hurry to get to our destinantion. We even complain if there is a detour from the path we have chosen. We don't consider that God may be trying to slow us down. We always look for the quickest and shortest route. But what are we missing. Maybe we are worn and stressed because we need to stop and see what is going on. The Bible says that Jesus had need to go through Samaria. I'm sure the disciples didn't want to go that way because they knew the Jews had no dealing with the Samaritans. But Jesus had a purpose (John 4). And even in the scripture reference today, as He passed through Jericho and a blind man declares his need. And he cried out to Jesus for his help. Don't push yourself in a rush through places, there just might be someone or something there you need to see. Remember, you are the only Jesus some people are ever going to see.
