Something New
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there anything whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. (Ecclesiastes 1:9-10)
Thought For Today:
It's common for some people to feel uneasy when others acquire something new. However, according to Solomon, there is nothing truly new under the sun. This explains why cars lose value so quickly after leaving the dealership - they are made up of components that have been around before. The Bible doesn't contradict itself, as Paul clarifies in 2 Corinthians 5:17: when someone becomes a Christian, they become a new creature in spirit, and their old self passes away. In contrast, Job wonders if anything clean can come out of something unclean (Job 14:4). Jesus answers this question in John 15:3, saying that his spoken word can make someone clean. There is no contradiction here, as Job's question refers to the natural and Jesus is discussing the spiritual. Everything natural has already been created by God, but humans are unique in that they are living beings and can be made new. Through the new birth process, people can be transformed from living beings to spiritual beings, from corruptible to incorruptible, and from mortal to immortal. As Jesus Himself says in Luke 18:27, what is impossible for humans is possible for God.
