The Root of the Problem
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. (Hebrews 12:14-17)
Thought For Today:
I plowed up a small portion of land behind my home with intentions of planting a garden. The soil was very rich and I just knew it was going to be a beautiful garden. Before I planted the seeds I wanted to make sure it had fertilizer and lime etc. But the weeds just kept growing after spraying weed killer multiple times I But the weeds just kept returning. I realized the unless you pull the root out it will grow back. Paul said that we need to look diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled. Like those weeds in my garden, if I do not remove the root of the weed, they will return and destroy the whole garden. Like weeds, the root of bitterness in our hearts can defile and destroy us. Therefore, we must continue to search our hearts daily to ensure nothing unlike Jesus has entered in. If you don't get the root of the problem out of the soil, it will grow again.
