What Is Marriage?

"I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry"(2 Timothy 4:1-5)

Thought For Today

I was asked by someone what I thought about same-sex marriage. I asked them what they meant by same-sex marriage. They said, "You know, two women marrying each other or two men marrying each other." So, I asked them what their definition of marriage was. They told me that it was two people who were being joined together, which is holy matrimony. And I asked where you got that definition. They said from the Bible. I said to them, If you’re going to use a pattern or example from the Bible, then use it correctly. The Bible says marriage is between one man and one woman. I said what if the argument was focused on how many can get married versus the difference in what sex they are? They said, if it was multiple partners, then why would you get married? Marriage is supposed to be a commitment or contract between each other to let others know that you are no longer on the market. Trying to unite multiple partners wouldn’t be marriage; it would be more like joining a social group. The origin of marriage was not man's design. It was God’s order for human behavior. I asked them what difference it would make in what I think. Then, I asked them what the purpose of marriage is. They said they thought it was to be united with the person you love. I said that is partially true. However, according to the Bible, the real purpose of marriage is to prevent fornication, as fornication is a sin and causes spiritual death. I also told them that the second purpose of marriage was for reproduction. The Bible said that God made them male and female and told them to be fruitful and multiply (reproduce) after their kind (Genesis 1:27-28). I told them that I think that God's love and mercy can reach everyone and allow each of us to see our errors when we commit them.
