Bits of Control
" I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me" (Psalms 39:1)
Thought For Today:
I got my first horse when I was 14 years old, his name was Buckshot. He was an American Saddle horse. I can remember using two different types of bridle bits. One was called a straight bit while the other was called a broken bit. One bit applied pressure and the other bit applied pain. But I noticed that when using the right kind of bit, it wasn't very long before they learned their lesson to obey. David said I will keep my mouth with a bridle while the wicked is before me. In other words, I will choose my words carefully. In a sense, he's saying, I'll put a bit in my mouth so that my tongue is under control. His son Solomon wrote, "He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding" (Proverbs 17:27-28). Always remember, God gave you two ears and one mouth. Therefore, we should listen more than we talk. Sometimes the best way to win an argument is to be quiet.
