Blessed Assurance

After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward (Genesis 15:1).

Thought For Today:

We see that often times those that were called by God were fearful to obey what God was asking them to do. God, our Creator, knows this and so constantly throughout scripture He offers unto us His reassurance that He is there with us. Maybe Abraham questioned God as to what kind of protection, and what his reward would be after doing what God asked him to do. This is nothing new. As humans, there is something inside all of us that causes us to fear the unknown. We also wonder if we will be rewarded. You know, the proverbial "What’s in it for me?" God was asking Abraham to leave his comfort zone, to leave his own country. How do you feel about stepping out of your comfort zone? Wanting to give Abraham reassurance, God said unto him, “I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” In other words, God was saying, "Don’t worry Abraham; I’m with you and I’ll protect you and bless you." Since we are the seed of Abraham, those same promises are for you and me today. If you have been thinking about doing a work for the Lord this year, don’t fear. God is with you. He’s right beside you every step of the way. Don’t worry what kind of reward you’ll receive. Remember, one day He will say, “Well done my good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord”.
