Captivating Love
And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter. And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me. And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.
(Genesis 29:18-20)
Thought For Today:
Observing Jacob's actions, it is evident that this was a case of love at first sight. In our youth, many of us may have experienced an immediate attraction to someone upon first meeting them. The nature of love can captivate our hearts from an early age. The Bible states, "And Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had for her." Love can sometimes drive individuals to perform extraordinary deeds. Moses conveyed to the children of Israel, "The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt" (Deuteronomy 7:7-8).
Sometimes, our love may be based on a promise we've made to someone else. All commitments should fit this point. Even in strong relationships, individuals often seek mutual commitment and dedication reassurance. A true calling or purpose can inspire a love for the cause, the people involved, and the objectives. If we care deeply about our values, we should care for each other. Love for one another is fundamental to building unity and trust within any community. It is important to remember that showing appreciation and support for each other strengthens bonds and fosters a positive environment.
