I’m Climbing Higher Every Day

And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. (Genesis 28:10-17)

Thought For Today :

I was never afraid to climb ladders, even when they were homemade out of materials that today we would never consider using. I’m a little older now, I am not afraid, just a little more cautious about how high I'm willing to go. Particularly if they are made out of materials that I don't think will hold me.

When Jacob was sent by his mother to live with his uncle Laban, he came upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and laid down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

Joseph had another dream that his family would one day bow down to him. Peter said that in the last days, old men would dream. Solomon asked God to grant him wisdom to lead His people, and God gave him more than he had asked for, when he awoke it was but a dream. Jacob's dream speaks to the effect that we always have divine protection (Hebrews 1:14), and that we can always go higher in Christ should we desire. But it is up to each of us to climb the ladder of success and victory. When John was on the isles of Patmos, he heard a voice saying unto him, "Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne" (Revelation 4:1-2). Habakkuk said that God would cause him to walk upon high places. God wants each of us to come up higher in Him, and it starts with making up our minds that we are going to climb the ladder to victory.
