Tempted To Envy
Proverbs 3:31
Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
Thought For Today:
Solomon tells us that we must not envy the prosperity of evil-doers. (Proverbs 3:31). His caution is the same as his father David's in Psalms 37. (Read the entire chapter). Scripture tells us not to envy the oppressor. It could also be interpreted as we must never imitate his actions. Scripture also tells us not to envy sinners. David said, "For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb" (Psalms 37:2). Paul told Timothy, "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses" (1 Timothy 6:6-12). Don't let the ways of the oppressor draw your heart away; it's not good for the soul.
