The Demands Of Leadership

And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel. And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered "(Numbers 27:12-13).

Thought For Today:

"Do you ever feel for Moses? Scripture tells us that Moses was a very humble man. I often wonder what it must have been like to lead all those people. Moses' problems weren't caused by his followers, but rather by those in leadership. If the leaders had gotten in line and become obedient to the heavenly calling, Moses could have led the people into the Promised Land without any loss of life."

Leadership sets the tone for the followers. If leaders start complaining, it can quickly spread like wildfire. It's important to remember to obey and submit to those who have been placed in positions of authority. They are responsible for watching over us and will be held accountable. As it says in Hebrews 13:17, "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you."

You know, when you review Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers, there were a lot of people who lost their lives because they rebelled against spiritual authority. What a price to pay for disobedience. Paul said that 23,000 died in one day because of fornication (1 Corinthians 10). Don't think that Moses didn't make it to heaven. For we see him and Elijah meet with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration (Matthew 17). He just wasn't allowed to lead the people into the Promised Land. When you understand that your pastor has to give an account for you to God, shouldn't you consider obedience? Jesus was obedient to His father and He is our example.
