Weary Soldiers
Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place. So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading. And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law. Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength. (Nehemiah 8:7-10)
Thought For Today:
I often hear people say that they are weary and feel like they are at the end of their road. When asked why, they say, I'm not sure, I just feel so exhausted.
The fact is, so many people seem to be weak in their walk with God. Many seem to have trouble getting to church and maintaining their relationship with God. We must wonder how a Holy Ghost-filled believer can lose their power and vigor during times of adversity. Solomon said that if we faint in the day of adversity, then our strength is small.
When Nehemiah and the helpers finished the wall, he told them that the joy of the Lord was their strength. The call was for the children of God to rejoice at all times. Isaiah said that God has given us a garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:3). If we get into the habit of praising God at all times, we will maintain our strength and ability to keep running the race even in adversity.
