Still Holding On
For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain”
(1 Thessalonians 3:5)
Thought For Today:
The devil's preferred tool is temptation, which in Greek is known as peirasmos (pi-ras-mos'). It denotes solicitation, discipline, or provocation, and implies adversity. The Bible refers to Satan as the "tempter" among other names. Consequently, the tempter will try to entice you to succumb to temptation at every opportunity. He will encourage you to act wrongly, behave poorly, live unworthily, overspend, be lazy, complacent, and discontented. He will also provoke you to rebel against authority, and continuously aggravate, irritate, frustrate, and annoy you. Some people believe that God will not burden them beyond their capacity. However, the scripture says that God will always provide a way of escape with every temptation so that you can bear it (1 Corinthians 10:13).
After not hearing from the Thessalonica Church, Paul sent Timothy to check on them. He was concerned that Satan had tempted them and caused them to turn away from their faith. However, Timothy reported that they were still standing strong. It's important to thank God for those who remain steadfast in times of adversity. As Solomon said, "If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small" (Proverbs 24:10). In our journey with Christ, we will face temptations from the enemy. But we must remember that, as Jesus told him when He was tempted, life is not just about material possessions and status, but about every word that comes from God's mouth. Have you made up your mind?
